The idea for this one came from a tour we were taking of the USS Farragut about 2 years ago. We were in the control room and one of the crewmen asked a friend of ours to “go ahead and hit that button, maam.” She hesitated at first but went ahead and hit it. Unbeknownst to most of the folks in the room, there was another crewman at the back of the room by a switch panel. When our friend hit the button, the other crewman hit the switch in the panel blacking out the entire control room. People started to wonder what the heck happened. I saw the guy at the panel so I was laughing my butt off.
