111. USMC Color Blind

There are so many styles of camo utilities these days. I think I just read the Marines are field testing 2 new patterns to work better in Afghanistan! Of course that will lead to another cartoon in about a week or two!

Back in the day we had OD fatigues, not utilities. Only the Special Ops guys, security police and K9 troops wore the woodland green camo patterns. But if these new patterns save lives, then by all means make more!

We need invisible tape and clothing dye! Have a goor weekend, folks.

  1. When I was in the Army, I thought the camo pattern on our BDU’s worked just fine. 🙂

In AIT one day, our drill sergeant had us outside for concealment exercise. He told us to go out into the woods behind our barracks, and cover ourselves up, and out of sight. (We even used the camo face paint.) The D.S.’s would search the woods for us. Many were discovered in seconds.

I had the bright idea of climbing a tree and hiding. I was the last person they found….and it was an FNG that found me, not a drill. In fact, D.S. Exum walked right under me….

I even heard him asking: “Who we got left?”

My fellow soldiers looked around and my squad leader said: “Dunlap, I think, drill sergeant.”

“Ok, Dunlap!” D.S. Exum shouted. “Come on out!”

Before I could move (I was also trying to conceal my laughter so hard I was giggling like a little girl…LOL!), an FNG spotted me. “There he is, Drill Sergeant!”

D.S. Exum looks up at my position: “Dunlap, get the hell down from there! Whaddoyou think you are….a sniper!”

As I climbed down, I replied (with a grin): “No, drill sergeant, but I damn near Rambo’d ya. You walked right under me, and I was thinking of dropping behind you and saying: BOO!”

A good laugh was had, and then it was back to biz as usual. 🙂

  2. He’s not a Marine, he’s a Seabee. CB didn’t stand for color-blind, but for Confused Bas—ds, because the original Bees were issued such a conglomeration of clothing from other services. Today, they dress like Marines. In fact many WWII recruits were funneled into the Seabees from other services because they were color-blind. This would be a typical meeting of a Marine having stormed an Island only to find the Bees already bulldozing their way through the jungle.
